So, you have a blog and you try to update it at least once a month… well actually the plan is once a month, in reality it’s maybe every two months, possibly even three…
This is a familiar story for many of us, myself included (oops #DoAsISayNotAsIDo). My reasoning behind it is because I blog when I have something to say, hopefully meaning the blog will add value for its readers as opposed to being just because Google tells me I have to generate content in order for it to like me. Err, what’s not to like?!
However, I’d like to add, I do take more care and am much more consistent when it comes to my clients’ blogs. And why? Because the true value of a well-constructed blog is something that can’t be argued with.
And as I love a good statistic, I thought I’d share some with you:
Once you write between 24 and 51 posts your blog traffic can jump up by 30% and substantially higher after 51 posts (Source: Traffic Generation Café). It can be disheartening when you’ve spent three, four hours writing and are not getting results from it - this is the point many give up. But build a strong archive of posts and articles and you may just be rewarded.
Blogs that post daily get 5 times more traffic compared to those that don’t (Source: Social Media Exclaimer). Consistent engagement is one way to ensure traffic. Research shows that once readers and clients get hooked on getting the content from you, visiting your blog becomes part of their routine. Which may explain statistic 1 above. Posting daily may be a big ask for many of us, but the key message is consistency and strategy. Whether you’re posting daily, weekly or monthly, do it at the same time so readers know when to expect the content and they will go looking for it. Think of it as your favourite teen magazine.
Businesses who blog receive 97% more links to their website (Source: Hubspot Blog). Research shows that if you regularly update your blog with relevant content, you are twice as likely to be linked by people. This may be down to the fact that you become a resource or expert in your industry.
68.5% of consumers say that a blog adds credibility to a website (Source:Simple Marketing Now). Having a regularly updated blog goes a long way in building trust and relationships.
Websites with a blog tend to have 434% more indexed pages (Source: Tech Client). This is because a regularly updated blog encourages search engines to crawl the site, and consistent relevant content allows a search engine to identify your website as a useful resource for users to be directed to.
Content marketing costs 62% less than traditional marketing and generates about 3 times as many leads (Source: Demand Metric). Adverts, telemarketing etc. can require a lot of money to be invested. It’s also a lot more difficult to get the same targeting that content marketing offers.
In conclusion, blogging remains and will continue to be a huge marketing asset for any business, and best of all it’s not actually that difficult to do. The most important thing is to plan your content in advance and set the time aside to sit down and write it (or if you’re not as enthusiastic about writing as we are, you can always outsource 😉) in order to create that consistency and demand that readers and clients are craving.
