My first outing as The Contemporary PA. The thought process... What am I doing?
Launching a business I have to say is one of the scariest things I have done. The idea of talking about me and selling my idea fills me with dread. I'm sure I am not alone when I say my mind goes through a constant battle of excitement and knowing I have a great concept to fear of will it work and will people want this.
BUT, here goes, I have my pitch, I have leaflets and I have a banner. How do I make myself stand out? How can I get a little bit of me across? CUPCAKES. Everyone loves cake right!
I spend my weekend securing my business cards to the packaging - all 60 cases; and spend Monday and Tuesday baking and icing... next time I have such a clever idea remind me of this moment... I must say, I am pretty pleased with the finished product.
It's an early start the day of the exhibition and nerves are starting to kick in. As each exhibitor finishes setting up, it's an opportunity to grab a cuppa and have a chat. Suddenly it doesn't seem as bad. The biggest secret to this, I'm being told, it to be you.
I'm lucky enough to be next to Dawn Mills of Albert Goodman, also a first timer at the event. In it together springs to mind.
Across from us stand bibic, a children's charity which has been running since 1972. Heavily reliant on fundraising and generosity of the public. What these guys do is amazing. Why not get involved the the Big Bibic Bake Off @bibic_charity
One to watch, Joel Capes, Cinematographer and video producer. I had a chat with the guys being a fellow start-up, and really excited to see what the future holds for them.
Ever thought you could do with a specific skill set for a certain project? I met Cherry Iley who is Director for SkillsforSale an online business shop which facilitates just that.
All in all, a hugely successful day, full of useful insight I will take with me on my journey. A lot of admiration for the self made businessmen and women as well as the hardworking employees that work alongside them.
